Communications Manager (#900085)

City of Tempe, Arizona (Police Department)

Salary range $68,756 to $92,826 annually, plus excellent benefit package.

DESCRIPTION: This position will lead the day-to-day operations of the Tempe Police Department’s Communications Bureau. This encompasses hiring, training, and mentoring employees; developing and administering public safety communications policies and procedures; developing efficient and effective schedules for a 24/7 operation; preparing and monitoring organizational budgets; and managing and/or working with an emergency communications radio system, 9-1-1 phone system, computer aided dispatch, and related public safety communications center technology.

Requires strong leadership, management, and interpersonal skills. Qualifications Equivalent of a Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years of experience at the supervisory level in a public safety communications center. Management experience preferred.

Tempe, AZ is part of the Phoenix-metro area and home of Arizona State University. Tempe has a residential population of 161,719 and is considered a destination location, with many cultural, sporting, and special events. The Tempe Police Department has 341 sworn employees and 150 civilian employees. The Communications Bureau is comprised of one manager, one administrative assistant, five operational supervisors, two specialty supervisors (training and technology), and 39 telecommunicators.
