City's growth indicates need for new state-of-the-art police and fire headquarters

The nationally recognized and award winning public safety architectural firm, Architects Design Group (ADG), was recently selected to design the new City of St. Cloud (FL) Police Department Headquarters, 9-1-1 Center, and new stand-alone Fire Station and Fire Administration facility.

Design services included; the analysis of project sites, programming, master planning, design, and construction administration for the new police facility that will be located on city owned property on Canoe Creek Road and the new station and fire administration facility on Nolte Road.

The City of St. Cloud has experienced significant growth over the past few decades. The population has doubled since the year 2000 from 20,000 to nearly 40,000 residents in 2012. The current police facility has reached its operational lifespan and is no longer adequate in size, utilities or technology. In addition, Fire Station No. 31 and fire administration are undersized and unable to be expanded to meet the demand for future service calls.

The new police and fire facilities will be designed to accommodate the future growth of the departments. In addition, public safety requires 24-hour a day facilities that must be designed with energy efficiencies keeping the buildings life cycle cost in mind. Several resource-efficient technologies will be considered including utilizing recycled materials, natural lighting, energy-efficient heat/cooling systems, ultra low-flow water fixtures, low-load light fixtures, drought tolerant landscaping, and more.

The new police headquarters will include a state-of-the-art 9-1-1 call center as well as holding cells, sallyport, evidence storage and processing, detective and investigative offices, interview rooms, conference rooms, record storage, armory and muster training room. The new fire administrative facility will include, fire administration, media library, fire and EMS training classrooms, and a fitness room. The new stand-alone fire station will include crew quarters and four apparatus bays.
