Cecil County MD Selects Airbus DS Communications’ VESTA 9-1-1 Solution
Airbus DS Communications, an entity of Airbus Defense and Space, has been selected by Cecil County Department of Emergency Services to upgrade the Maryland County’s emergency call-taking system with the VESTA® 9-1-1 solution.
An existing Airbus DS Communications customer, Cecil County sought to upgrade its system to make the county Next Generation 9-1-1 ready and to boost its operational capabilities. The agency completed its technology upgrade in addition to remodelling and modernizing its entire operations center.
Cecil County Department of Emergency Services serves a population of more than 102,000 residents and answers more than 175,000 emergency calls each year. The county increased its total call taking positions from 18 to 29 to match the region’s growing population.
Previously, Cecil County’s two call centers—the command center and the back-up location—were operating on different systems, making it difficult for call takers to transition between the two. With the scalability of the new VESTA 9-1-1 solution, both locations now offer the same high-quality user experience, ensuring reliability and fast response times.
“Throughout the years, Airbus DS Communications has provided reliable public safety communications technology and tremendous expertise and support to our team,” said Jim Alfree, Assistant Chief, 9-1-1 Communications for Cecil County Department of Emergency Services. “By transitioning to the VESTA 9-1-1 solution, we are assuring dependability continues while also meeting Next Generation 9-1-1 standards.”
The new system is geodiverse, making it more resilient in a disaster—if one call server goes down for any reason, the second can maintain operations at full capacity. Cecil County also implemented the VESTA mobile CommandPOST™ solution to expand its call-taking abilities in the event of a severe emergency.
In addition to the VESTA 9-1-1 solution, Airbus DS Communications’ VESTA™ Analytics solution provides Cecil County public safety leadership the metrics and insights needed to monitor and track call center performance such as how fast calls are received and average response times.
