Harris Modernizes Public Safety Communications in Macon-Bibb County (GA)
Harris Corporation’s new public safety radio system for Macon-Bibb County, Georgia, will be used by more than 1,200 public safety personnel, including the Macon fire department, EMA, and the newly consolidated Bibb County sheriff’s office.
The standards-based Harris system is a P25 (APCO Project 25) Phase 2 digital system and provides public safety agencies with enhanced communications, clarity and interoperability. The full implementation of the new Macon-Bibb County system clears the way for Monroe and Peach counties to leverage the system for a three-county mid-Georgia regional P25 network.
The project includes Harris BeOn mobile application that extends the benefits of the P25 Phase 2 system by enabling communications on the system from a mobile device anywhere there is cellular or Wi-Fi coverage.
“Since upgrading to the new Harris system, the county’s first responders report better uptime stability, coverage and clearer audio – three great benefits,” said Stephen Masteller, IT Director for Macon-Bibb County. “Plus, the new BeOn mobile application lets our sheriff and fire chief monitor emergency communication no matter where they are, even outside of the state.”
