Element Mobile to Offer Cellular Mobile Alert System (CMAS)

Wisconsin Rapids-based cellular provider Element Mobile is teaming up with Intrado, to bring the Cellular Mobile Alert System (CMAS) to Central Wisconsin.

CMAS is a location-based message system that alerts customers of Federal Emergency Management Agency alerts and other governmental updates. These alerts include Amber Alerts (America’s Missing Broadcasting Emergency Response), severe weather alerts, and presidential alerts. When activated, CMAS sends a 90-character message alert to CMAS compatible devices. Customers have the choice to disable receiving alerts on their devices, with the exception of presidential alerts.

"Central Wisconsin is fortunate to have a premier emergency communications provider, in Element Mobile, available to the market," said John Snapp, senior technical officer for Intrado. The company is a leader in 9-1-1 technology solutions, supporting the needs of public safety and telecommunications carriers to provide a carrier-grade hosted cell broadcast platform.

“Wireless carriers that can offer CMAS alerts give customers up-to-date public safety announcements that keep them safe and informed,” Snapp said. “It was a great experience working with Element Mobile. Their state-of-the-art network switch provided a smooth installation of the CMAS platform.”

Jerry Wilke, chief operating officer for Element Mobile, said his wireless carrier was chosen to be one of the test partners in Central Wisconsin by Intrado because of Element’s switch and network capabilities.

“We’re honored to work with Intrado to bring our customers world class public safety network services. Public safety is a focus and passion for Element Mobile as well as Intrado and we’re happy to deliver this product to our market with their help,” Wilke said.

CMAS compatible devices will soon be listed on Element Mobile’s website. FEMA and Element Mobile will begin sending test alerts in the near future.
