NENA Achieves ANSI Accreditation

NENA-The 9-1-1 Association announced it has received accreditation as a standards-setting authority by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), which serves as the voice of the U.S. standards and conformity assessment system.

For more than two decades, NENA has been the leading developer of operational and technical standards for the 9-1-1 system.  During that time, NENA has produced dozens of important standards benefiting public safety and has gained recognition as the de facto standard-setting body within the 9-1-1 industry.

In an effort to further NENA’s mission of developing standards and resources for 9-1-1 systems, the association recently applied for and received accreditation by ANSI.

“Becoming an ANSI-accredited Standards Development Organization is an important step for NENA,” said National President Barbara Jaeger, ENP, Arizona’s State 9-1-1 Administrator. “This accreditation certifies and validates our rigorous development process. We look forward to our standards gaining wider recognition and implementation.  The end result will be a public made safer through their use.”

NENA plans to begin submitting standards for ANSI approval in the coming months.
