RapidSOS Makes its 9-1-1 Location Tech Available to Those Affected by Wildfires

RapidSOS, a NYC-based emergency communications company, is deploying its Haven 911 location App for free to those affected by the wildfires in California and elsewhere. Haven provides a direct link to 9-1-1, sends vital information to dispatchers and most importantly, transmits a user’s exact location to 9-1-1 centers – a critical issue for those displaced or disorientated in an emergency. This follows similar deployments after Hurricanes Harvey and Maria.

As the wildfires continue to devastate Northern California, we are reminded of how challenged communication can be in times of emergency.  RapidSOS – an emergency technology company, was founded to solve this challenge.  To help those in affected areas during this sustained response, RapidSOS is offering three years of free access to the RapidSOS Haven app to help people stay connected to 9-1-1 in case of emergency. In addition, if there are cellular outages, the Haven App is a good way to reach 9-1-1 and transmit GPS location over Wi-Fi.

Haven App: 

  • Provides a voice & data link to 9-1-1 over multiple connectivity sources (not just cellular calling)
  • Allows family members to immediately locate each other and call 9-1-1 on behalf of a loved one trapped and stranded
  • Transmits precise location and additional profile data to 9-1-1 and first responders

Haven has been used in a number of emergency incidents, most notably to save a lost hiker in need of rescuing in the forest of North Carolina.

In the years since RapidSOS developed Haven, the team has been working closely with the public safety community to deploy its technology directly in PSAPs across the country in order to help solve the issue of locating smartphone 9-1-1 calls. 

In addition, RapidSOS is working with connected device companies to provide a rich data link from any IoT device to 9-1-1 and first responders in an emergency.
