Emergency communications leader Cassidian Communications, an EADS North America company, has implemented its next generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1) Sentinel® Patriot® call processing solution within the Gaston County, N.C., Police Department 9-1-1 Communications Center via communications solutions integrator, Wireless Communications.

"Our agency was looking for a call handling solution that would meet our present and future needs that is dependable and reliable, and will work seamlessly with our other existing systems and equipment,” said Lloyd Moskowitz, communications director, Gaston County Police Department 9-1-1 Communications Center. “We want a company that is responsive to our needs and committed to addressing any problems, should they arise. Establishing a solid foundation with a reliable solution is one of the reasons we chose to work with Cassidian Communications and Wireless Communications.”

The Sentinel Patriot solution’s IP architecture, designed expressly for NG9-1-1 applications, is based on current and evolving critical communications technologies and standards. This provides the Gaston County 9-1-1 Center with sophisticated backup, disaster recovery and overflow operations with the assured ability to provide reliable service under unexpected conditions. The deployment model provides maximum system survivability and the efficient network design minimizes data traffic and bandwidth usage for ongoing cost savings.

The Gaston County Police Department 9-1-1 Communications Center is a multi-agency, multi-jurisdictional center with 14 call-taking positions situated to receive emergency and administrative calls as well as dispatch them to the county’s police, fire and emergency medical service agencies. In 2010, the Gaston County Police Department 9-1-1 Communications Center received 473,777 emergency and administrative calls, of which 126,697 of the calls were for 9-1-1 emergencies.

The third-largest county by population in North Carolina with more than 208,000 citizens, Gaston County is west of the Charlotte metropolitan area and encompasses more than 356 square miles.

Cassidian Communications continues to serve clients ranging from public safety operations to Fortune 1000 corporations to federal agencies. Collectively, the company has more than 40 years of experience deploying 9-1-1 call processing solutions, notification solutions and first-responder digital trunked radio networks.
