Smoke enveloped a North San José neighborhood as fire consumed a one-story residential structure at 2918 Via Encinitas on Sunday, June 21, 2015.

Firefighters from Station 23 arrived on scene and discovered the home fully involved in fire with exposures threatened. Defensive operations were initiated on the main fire building with arriving crews working to protect adjacent homes.

An aerial master stream off of Truck 2 was placed into operation as hand lines were stretched into position to knockdown exterior hot spots.

Access to the home was hampered by overgrown vegetation and a large amount of trash throughout the property. According to neighbors the home had been vacant for some time with squatters suspected of using the structure for shelter.

There were no injuries and firefighters were able to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent homes.
