The US Coast Guard medically evacuated a 44-year-old female near Anacapa Island Sunday July 31st. The island is a small volcanic island located about 11 miles off the coast of Port Hueneme, California, in Ventura County.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles-Long Beach received a report at 2:20 p.m., from the operator of a 64-foot commercial passenger vessel, reporting that a female aboard was showing signs of diabetic complications.

A Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat - Medium from Coast Guard Station Channel Islands Harbor, along with a paramedic from Ventura County Fire, arrived on scene and safely transferred the woman to Channel Islands Harbor where local EMS transport was waiting.

The Coast Guard reminds mariners and beachgoers who suffer from emergency health complications to always be prepared while on or near the water.

  • Always bring required medications with you while on the water.
  • Carry additional auto injections, insulin or inhalers with you if you suffer from allergies, diabetes or asthma.
  • Individuals who are known to have health complications such as a heart conditions etc., should remain cautious of the health risks while boating.
