Harris County (TX) Citizen Corps is celebrating its 10th Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Rodeo Round-up on Saturday, February 13th, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Harris County Fire & Sheriff’s Training Academy, 2318 Atascocita Road, Humble, Texas. CERT volunteers from around the state will test their skills in medical operations, search and rescue, fire suppression, incident command, emergency preparedness and hazmat recognition.

"This event showcases the CERT volunteer program that prepares communities for any type of disaster," said Harris County Judge Ed Emmett. “CERT volunteers are essential partners and play a crucial role in emergency preparedness and recovery.”

This year, Harris County Citizen Corps will recognize the United States Coast Guard (USCG) for its continuous support of the CERT program and for all its work to keep the region safe from disasters. Coincidentally, 2016 marks the 100th anniversary of Coast Guard aviation.

“As the USCG celebrates 100 years in flight, it’s only appropriate to show our appreciation for all its hard work and dedication,” added Emmett. “The USCG Sector Houston-Galveston plays a crucial role in emergency management in our region.”

More than 300 participants are expected at this year’s Rodeo Round-up.  Numerous emergency response assets and exhibits including the Whambulance - the monster truck ambulance, Memorial Hermann Life Flight, USCG and Harris County Sheriff helicopters will also make a stop.

In 2015, CERT membership grew to more than 25,000 trained volunteers involved in 250 Community Emergency Response Teams. The CERT program’s success is due in large part to its growing partnership with first responders, non-profit agencies, community organizations and all its volunteers.
