via NY1: Bronx Street Renamed After Longtime FDNY Dispatcher
Author: Via NY1 News
A stretch of East 108th Street between Devoe and Bronx Park Avenues was renamed in honor of Supervising Fire Dispatcher Dennis Patrick O'Connell, a veteran FDNY dispatcher from the Bronx who recently passed away.
Family, friends, and coworkers gathered for the unveiling of a new street sign last Thursday (March 3) honoring the veteran fire dispatcher. Those who knew O'Connell remembered him as a local hero. "I'm very proud. I was very proud of my husband when he was alive, and I'm just even more proud of him now. I'm just, I'm going to have to drive by and just look at this sign. I'm just in awe. And I know he's up in heaven looking down," O'Connell's widow, Patricia O'Connell, told NY1.
O'Connell served in the New York City Fire Department for more than three decades.
The lifelong Bronx resident was also a bagpiper and played at the funerals of September 11th victims.
