CALFIRE Pilot Geoffrey "Craig" Hunt Memorial Scholarship
Geoffrey "Craig" Hunt was an air tanker pilot out of CALFIRE’s Hollister Airbase and a 13-year veteran of DynCorp flying CALFIRE's firefighting aircraft. He was lost while flying Tanker 81 on the Dog Rock fire near Yosemite National Park last year.
Craig’s line of duty death was hard on a lot of his friends, family, and on his brothers and sisters who worked with him at CAL FIRE. One of them, Mike Morgan, a Fire Captain in Monterey, has reached out to the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) Foundation to assist us in honoring Craig by setting up a scholarship in his name so that young students who wish to learn how to fly can with financial assistance. “The average cost for a new student is $10,000 and with a $5,000 scholarship from the AOPA we can cut that price in half while also making sure the student is true to his desire to fly by raising the other half of his tuition on his own,” said Morgan.
“In order to acquire a scholarship in Craig's name though we are looking for donations from businesses, agencies, and individuals that would be willing to assist us in obtaining the $5,000 needed,” Morgan said. “With your gift, you would be helping future pilots receive financial aid to live their dream of flying and soaring to a future of a new career in the sky.”
Please consider donating today to our AOPA Scholarship Fund in the name of Geoffrey"Craig" Hunt. AOPA is a 501c3 EIN #20-8817225 tax deductible donation.
