An analysis of Twitter conversations to understand reactions to a crisis...

The impact of social media during crises has been an increasingly debated topic. In the last months, Europe has experienced several emergencies and social media, especially Twitter, have been a main channel citizens and authorities alike have used to react.

The “Brussels Attacks - Crossover between research and reality” document, authored by Nicolas Vanderbiest and published by the European Emergency Number Association (EENA),  analyzes recent crises in Europe and concludes to the following 6 stages of reactions: the information phase; the phase of emotion; the transition phase; the organizational phase; the phase of interest; and the disorganization phase.
