Second grader Katie Lee of Alexandria, Va., honored for lifesaving 9-1-1 call
"I heard a fall and I was like, 'Mommy, are you okay?' And she was like, 'I'm bleeding" said Katie Lee, a second grader at Stratford Landing Elementary. "I just felt like I had to call 9-1-1 and then I did," said Katie. "I just wanted to save her life."
"I was absolutely amazed," said Carolyn Kellam, the Fairfax County 9-1-1 dispatcher who answered the call. "I was very surprised at how calm and cool she was, and how articulate she was. Katie was able to give me the information that I needed without panicking."
A month after the accident, Kellam presented Katie with the Fairfax County Department of Public Safety Communications 91-1- Citizen Lifesaver Award. Katie is only the third person to have ever received the award, and she got the honor in front of her entire student body.
