2nd Annual Run for 9-1-1 Announced
Registration Now Open for the 2nd Annual Run for 9-1-1
Friends of 9-1-1 have announced that the second annual Run for 9-1-1 charity 5K will take place in Denver, Colorado on the morning of Sunday, June 28.
Friends of 9-1-1 provides scholarships, continuing education opportunities, and wellness programs for America’s 9-1-1 professionals. The education and training programs supported by Friends of 9-1-1 better equip 9-1-1 call takers to serve their communities by providing them with on- and off-the-job resources needed to stay healthy and well-trained.
The inaugural Run for 9-1-1 was held last year during NENA: The 9-1-1 Association’s 2014 Conference & Expo in Nashville, TN. The 2014 event was extremely successful, with multiple financial sponsors and more than 300 runners turning out in support of our nation's 9-1-1 professionals, who answer more than 250 million calls for help every year. You can find pictures from last year's run/walk on the Friends of 9-1-1 Facebook page.
“Enbridge and Vector Pipeline are proud to support the Friends of 9-1-1 5K run,” said Enbridge’s Manager of Strategic Partnerships and Public Awareness, Kesley Tweed. “Day in and day out, 9-1-1 dispatchers across the nation have the challenging job of initiating responses to a variety of emergency situations. This event honors their important role in safety and is a chance to say thank you for those vital efforts.”
The 2015 Run for 9-1-1 will kick off at 7:00AM and runners will be using the Cherry Creek Bike Path and the Platte River Trails in Denver. The running route includes scenic views of downtown Denver.
Interested runners (and walkers) should visit the Friends of 9-1-1 website for more information. The registration fee is currently $30 and will increase to $35 on May 16 and then to $40 on Race Day (June 28). Teams of five runners can register for $100.
There are a limited number of corporate sponsorship opportunities for the Run for 9-1-1 charity event. The deadline for sponsorship commitments is June 15 – see the aforementioned website for details.
Those who cannot attend the run/walk in person are encouraged to show support by becoming a Friends of 9-1-1 Fundraiser, with options available for individuals or groups to raise funds for scholarships and other initiatives benefiting 9-1-1 professionals.
“I had the pleasure of running the event last year,” said Enbridge’s Tweed, who came in first place for the women’s division. “As a participant I can also say the event is a great race for those either looking to run for speed, or for those looking for a fun, stress-free 5K.”
