Four emergency call takers from across the United States have been selected to receive Friends of 9-1-1’s annual Telecommunicator Continuing Education Scholarships.

The Friends of 9-1-1 scholarships were awarded to uniquely deserving 9-1-1 call takers, enabling them to attend a national 9-1-1 conference to build the skills necessary to advance in their careers. This year’s winners were selected from a pool of nearly 100 applicants.

The 2015 winners of the Telecommunicator Continuing Education Scholarships are:

  1. Nathan Krause, Northwest Central Dispatch System, Illinois
  2. Reneaka Broadnax, Grady Memorial Hospital, Georgia
  3. Tina Mojzer, Town of Vail, Colorado
  4. Alexis Bone, Shawnee County Sheriff’s Office, Kansas

“Telecommunicators provide lifesaving services every day to Americans across the country,” said Brian Fontes, CEO of NENA – The 9-1-1 Association. “Their fast-paced, pressure-packed jobs require a variety of skills gained through training and experience. Nathan, Reneaka, Tina, and Alexis each represent the hard work, dedication, and commitment required to be a 9-1-1 call taker. We are proud to recognize them for their exceptional work and to support their continued 9-1-1 education.”

Each scholarship provided complimentary registration to the NENA 2015 Conference & Expo and a one-day training course of choice at NENA 2015. It also includes a travel stipend of $500, bringing the scholarship’s total value to around $1,600. The scholarship recipients were recognized at the conference Awards Ceremony on June 28.

The Friends of 9-1-1 program was established in 2013 by NENA to equip 9-1-1 call takers to better serve our communities, and to provide opportunities to say “thank you” to those who serve as the public’s first line of emergency help.
