CMC Government Supply Encourages Community Members to Get Involved with Local CERT Teams

CERT teams can be a valuable community resource in an emergency situation.

September is National Preparedness Month and CMC Government Supply would like to encourage everyone to get involved with their local Community Emergency Response Team programs (CERT).  CERT educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations.

CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

CERT programs encourage people to be informed, make a plan, and buy a kit. CMC is proud to offer many options from the Emergency Kit which is perfect for families and businesses to first aid kits to products that can be used to build your own kit or add to an existing one.

Many CERT teams also use this time of year to get stocked up on supplies that have been depleted throughout the year. CMC Government Supply is a proud distributor of many products used by CERT programs. Pre-packaged CERT kits come with a great backpack, either a 16” or 22”, a CERT helmet and vest, as well as work gloves and safety goggles.  Deluxe kits have additional items including nitrile gloves, medical supplies, N95 mask, light stick, survival blanket and more.

A must for everyone is Cyalume SnapLight light sticks, which provide an important light source that lasts up to 12 hours. These light sticks are so affordable that many can be purchased to make sure you have enough for employees or family members. Other items to be considered are nonperishable food, can openers, flashlights, gas and water shut off tools, and particulate respirator masks.
