NCSL Provides Up-to-Date Tracking of 9-1-1 Legislation

Would you like to know what kind of 9-1-1 laws were passed during 2013?  Are you interested in finding out which states have updated their 9-1-1 statutes?  A resource is now available to assist State and local PSAP Managers, 9-1-1 Authorities, legislators and local and regional officials nationwide in keeping track of legislative changes affecting 9-1-1 services. An aggregate list of key 2013 enactments has been posted on the 9-1-1 Legislation Tracking Database at NCSL 9-1-1 Legislative Database.

The National 911 Program has partnered with the National Conference of State Legislators (NCSL) to create this online national database of introduced and enacted 9-1-1 legislation.  The legislative database, which is searchable by state, topic, keyword, year, status or primary sponsor, is updated bi-weekly and topics include:

  • 9-1-1 Administration, Plans, Boards & Commissions
  • 9-1-1 Fee, Service Fee or Surcharge
  • 9-1-1 Funding and Appropriations
  • 9-1-1 Privacy and Confidentiality
  • Enhanced 9-1-1
  • Next Generation/Advanced 9-1-1
  • Wireless 9-1-1
  • 9-1-1 Other/Miscellaneous

A summary report of all 2011, 2012 and 2013 enacted 9-1-1 legislation is available on the site.  The legislative database is available at NCSL 9-1-1 Legislative Database.

For more information on the 9-1-1 Legislation Tracking Database, or for more information on state legislation, visit www.ncsl.org.  The 9-1-1 Legislation Tracking Database can also be accessed by going to www.9-1-1.gov and clicking on the NCSL 9-1-1 Legislative Database link on the “Funding & Policy” page.  For more information on the National 9-1-1 Program, visit www.9-1-1.gov .
