NPSTC Supports North Dakota Waiver Request to Improve Cross Border Interoperability

Date: 2017-02-15

The FCC released a Public Notice on December 28, requesting comment on a waiver request by the State of North Dakota to use the VLAW31 frequency (155.475 MHz) for multi-discipline mutual aid within 25 km of the U.S./Canadian border. The Commission granted a similar waiver request to the State of Montana previously. That grant has assisted agencies with multi-discipline public safety cooperation along the U.S.-Canada border and with cross-border communications, both of which are beneficial to the public safety community and protection of the public. NPSTC's Comments supported the waiver request and noted that Canadian authorities have authorized their first responders to access this frequency in order to communicate with U.S. first responders near the Montana border. Learn more about cross border interoperability on our Cross Border Working Group page.
