SAFECOM is a governance body which is made up of public safety and elected officials that address public safety communications interoperability issues. There’s more to communications problems than technology, which “is really only one piece of the interoperability puzzle.  Governance, standard operating procedures, usage, training and exercises are also critical,” says Ronald Hewitt, Director of the DHS’s Office of Emergency Communications.  “Technology is usually not the factor that keeps us from communicating with one another.”

As public safety communications advances more rapidly than ever, SAFECOM has been established to help guide this progress. A new video briefly describes the program.
